"20 Days in Mariupol" won the BAFTA award for Best Documentary

The film "20 Days in Mariupol" by Mstyslav Chernov won the Best Documentary category at the BAFTA awards. This was announced on the award's website.

Mstyslav Chernov, along with photojournalist Yevhen Maloletka and producer Vasilisa Stepanenko, who worked together with Chernov in besieged Mariupol in 2022, went on stage to accept the award.

The film was also nominated for Best Foreign Language Film. However, in this category, the film "The Zone of Interest" by Jonathan Glazer won. It is set to be released in Ukrainian cinemas on February 22nd. This same film also received awards in the categories of Best Sound and Best British Film.

The BAFTA film awards are an annual accolade presented by the British Academy of Film and Television Arts. It serves as the British equivalent of the Oscars.

However, "20 Days in Mariupol" is also nominated for an Oscar in the Best Documentary category. The award ceremony will take place overnight on March 11th.
