At the Media Center Ukraine — Odesa, during a joint press conference of the Ministers of Defense of Ukraine and the Kingdom of Denmark, the heads of defense agencies discussed the issue of strengthening the capabilities of the Defense Forces of Ukraine and their support from the Danish government.
"I would like to especially note the role of the Kingdom of Denmark in helping Ukraine. It is one of the first countries to provide all kinds of support from the early days. We received not only large military packages but also political, economic and emotional support. Several very important programs were launched. For example, a special fund has been created in which donor countries collect funds together with our friends from Great Britain, and we have the opportunity to use these funds to purchase the weapons and ammunition we need," - noted the Minister of Defense of Ukraine Oleksiy Reznikov during the event.
He also called the meeting in Odessa very symbolic because it is thanks to the Kingdom of Denmark that the Black Sea coast is protected by Harpoon missiles.
"Harpoon anti-ship systems were obtained thanks to the leadership and initiative of the Danish partners. Of course, other countries also produce them, but the problem is that these Harpoon missiles are ship-based. And the genius decision of the engineers of the Kingdom of Denmark, about how they can be used precisely in-ground installations, and, accordingly, the implementation of this idea took place thanks to our partners," - noted Oleksiy Reznikov. "It was thanks to the weapons provided by the Kingdom of Denmark that the liberation of Zmiiny Island took place, which the enemies called an "act of goodwill", but our Armed Forces prepared it.
The Minister of Defense of Ukraine reported that during the meeting, the long-term perspective of cooperation between Ukraine and the Kingdom of Denmark was discussed.
"And after the victory, we need to strengthen our security component in the Black and Azov seas, and for this we need the capabilities of our fleet. So I am pleased that we have such reliable support. I hope that all these programs will continue," he emphasized.
