Well-known scientists began to leave Russia en masse after the start of a full-scale invasion of Russian troops into Ukraine.

Meduza writes about this with reference to the Project media.

The journalists managed to establish the names of 28 scientists who left the Russian Federation after the start of the war. Among them are Academician of the Russian Academy of Sciences, President of the Moscow Mathematical Society Viktor Vasiliev, Corresponding Member of the Russian Academy of Sciences Yuri Kovalev, and professors of the Russian Academy of Sciences Sergey Popov and Alexander Markov.

The Project emphasizes that there are much more specialists who left. In particular, the Scholars at Risk organization alone took 200 people out of Russia, and another 62 scientists were helped to leave by the German Alexander von Humboldt Foundation. In addition, there are now more than 6,000 people in telegram chats for scientists who need to be relocated, the Project notes.

In addition, according to journalists, after the start of a full-scale war, many Russian universities lost dozens of teachers. In particular, in one of the Higher School of Economics departments - the Institute for Humanitarian Historical and Theoretical Research - 60% of the employees quit, ex-director of the department Alexei Pleshkov told the Project. In turn, Konstantin Sonin, a former professor at the Higher School of Economics, believes that the university has lost at least 150 teachers in total.

One of the Russian universities most affected by the war in Ukraine was the Skolkovo Institute of Science and Technology, focused on partnerships with foreign educational institutions. In particular, after the start of a full-scale Russian invasion, almost all foreign and many Russian professors and students left the Institute.
