The aid to Ukraine is not a charitable gesture. It is an investment in the security of European countries amid the Russian threat.
German Foreign Minister Annalena Baerbock emphasized this during a speech at a national security strategy conference in Berlin, as reported by Tagesschau.
Baerbock stressed the need to defend "every square centimeter of Europe and our freedom."
She expressed irritation at discussions that frame assistance to Ukraine as a "charitable gesture."
"In reality, it is an investment in our own national security to protect peace and freedom," Baerbock emphasized.
She also added that there can be "no greater national interest" than contributing to one's own security.
