Balbek Bureau's workshop has added Poltava region to the RE.Ukraine Villages online reconstruction builder.
The team conducted two expeditions to identify the architectural features of the region. They discovered that it is typical for Poltava to use tiles to decorate the corners of houses, cornices, and facades. They also noticed a large number of chimneys, often adorned with decorative galvanized metal, explains Balbek Bureau.
Now, the builder includes options to use chimneys, trapezoidal window shapes, and various tile decoration styles for facades and corners. Additionally, the characteristic color schemes and decor of the region are reflected: combinations of white with blue, green, and reddish-brown.
With these features, the online builder allows users to create a virtual house based on the region's design code, as well as receive recommendations for building or restoring such homes. The result can be downloaded as a PDF album with isometric views, plans, drawings, facade layouts, and technical descriptions.
Balbek Bureau began developing an interactive builder for constructing authentic private homes in 2022, right after the de-occupation of part of Kyiv region. The RE. Ukraine Villages online builder now includes Kyiv, Chernihiv, Sumy, Kharkiv, Zaporizhzhia, Mykolaiv, Kherson, Odessa, and Dnipropetrovsk regions.
We discussed how digital architecture tools can help preserve the traditions of Ukrainian villages and how people can contribute to collecting data for the project with senior architect Vitalina Goshovska and digital architect Slava Stiopul from Balbek Bureau.
