Britain has transferred 4 echosounders worth £1.6 million to Ukraine.

The hydrographic service of the UK provided this equipment, which includes geodetic equipment and cartographic software.

This equipment is intended to enhance maritime safety and support commercial shipping in the face of Russian attacks.

Two full-beam echosounders and two multibeam echosounder systems will be used for hydrographic research.

The data collected can be processed and used to create and update navigational charts.

Ships traveling through Ukrainian waters can use this information to plan safe routes, including humanitarian grain corridors.

The equipment provided by the Hydrographic Office of the United Kingdom will help protect ports and maritime routes, ensuring the safety of Ukrainian vessels carrying goods, including food products.

In addition to the equipment and software, the State Hydrographic Service of Ukraine has been offered training on specialized courses to develop the necessary skills for effectively using the provided equipment.

The UKHO is a leading centre for hydrography, providing marine geospatial data to inform maritime decisions. We work with a wide range of data suppliers and partners to support maritime navigation, safety, security, and marine development around the UK and worldwide.
