Russia used its hypersonic missile complex "Zircon" during the attack on Ukraine on February 7th. This is reported by the Ministry of Defense of the United Kingdom.
The intelligence refers to research conducted by the Kyiv Scientific Research Institute of Forensic Expertise. It is noted that Russia used its hypersonic missile complex "Zircon" on February 7th.
In the video, which includes debris, fragments of the engine and control mechanisms with specific markings can be seen, which, according to the report, are characteristic of the missile type 3M22 "Zircon".
According to intelligence, the absence of vessels in the Black Sea known to transport missiles raises questions about the launch method. Presumably, the adapted Russian coastal defense system K-300 was used. If its use is confirmed, say in intelligence, this will pose a serious challenge to Ukrainian air defense due to its speed and maneuverability.
"It is likely that the Russians are testing a newly operational weapon system in a live conflict environment to provide assurance and demonstrate capabilities," added the intelligence.
For reference, the 3M22 Zircon is an anti-ship hypersonic cruise missile adopted into service in January 2023. The adversary claimed the following characteristics: range - 600-1500 km, speed up to 8-9 Mach, warhead mass about 300-400 kg, length 8-10 m.
