The Ministry of Defense is working to ensure that by 2026, every Ukrainian military personnel will be proficient in English, according to Deputy Chief of the General Staff of the Armed Forces of Ukraine, Volodymyr Koval.
One of the priorities is transitioning to English language instruction in military educational institutions.
In these institutions, a series of innovative educational projects will be implemented to meet the current needs within the context of full-scale military aggression by the Russian Federation, adds the Major General.
These projects involve engaging military practitioners and researchers to prepare officers, particularly in the field of situation awareness operators.
"Ukraine, as a candidate for EU membership, needs to overcome the language barrier with EU countries. That's why it's necessary to transform the status of the English language and make it the official language of communication," emphasized the Ministry of Digital Transformation.
In March 2023, the Kyiv International Institute of Sociology published a study showing that nearly one-third of Ukrainians (31.8%) don't know any foreign languages at all.
