Speaker of the Moldovan Parliament, Igor Grosu, has expressed concerns that the Russian Federation intends to disrupt the upcoming elections in Moldova, reports Newsmaker

He called on the European Union to support Chisinau in its efforts to strengthen democracy.

During a meeting with the speakers of EU countries' parliaments, Grosu discussed how the state plans to implement the electoral process and hold a referendum on Moldova's accession to the European Union.

"We are convinced that Russia will do everything possible to disrupt this process. In order to mislead the public, cause panic, and instill fear among citizens, they use sophisticated modern technologies, including artificial intelligence, information channels, and streams of disinformation directed against the government," he noted.

Grosu emphasized that Russia seeks to influence the outcome of the presidential elections and divert Moldova from the European path.

In light of this, he appealed to EU representatives to provide support in continuing the country's struggle for democracy.
