Cyber specialists from Ukraine's Defense Intelligence, in collaboration with the hacker group VO Team, have effectively disrupted the operations of a nuclear weapons developer near Chelyabinsk, Russia.
According to Defense Intelligence's Telegram channel on Saturday, a successful attack on the sole provider in Snezhinsk, Chelyabinsk region—Vega Company—resulted in the failure of 1,173 switches and 10 servers. Data on Vega’s servers was destroyed.
For nearly a week, several strategic enterprises in the city have been without internet and communication services. Among them is the All-Russian Scientific Research Institute of Technical Physics (VNIITF), a Russian nuclear warhead developer that was connected only to the Vega provider.
The successful cyber operation allowed for the acquisition of personal data of employees and a substantial amount of documents from the sanctioned facility.
The obtained information includes mechanisms for bypassing sanctions and identifies the individuals involved. The cyber operation also posed a threat to the aggressor's state defense orders, as indicated by comments in local Snezhinsk forums, according to Defense Intelligence.
