The Russian army is attempting to outflank the city of Stepnohirsk from the east to establish a foothold for fire control over the outskirts and logistical routes of the regional center, Zaporizhzhia, Colonel Vladyslav Voloshyn, spokesperson for the Southern Defense Forces, said on air.
He explained that the Russian forces are conducting assault operations to bypass Stepnohirsk from the east, effectively opening a new axis.
“The enemy is launching attacks on the western outskirts of Stepove, trying to outflank Stepnohirsk from the east. From the west of Stepnohirsk, they are advancing along the former Kakhovka Reservoir shoreline, where Kamianske, Plavni, and Prymorske are located. Their goal is simple—to seize this foothold, where the city of Stepnohirsk is situated,” Voloshyn said.
According to him, this creates a threat to the eastern and southern outskirts of Zaporizhzhia as well as the city’s eastern logistical routes.
“This is a threat not only to the regional center but also to the logistical routes leading east from Zaporizhzhia. Some types of weaponry, including loitering munitions like ‘Molniya’ and ‘Lancet,’ could reach the outskirts of Zaporizhzhia. That is why the enemy aims to capture this foothold and the city of Stepnohirsk, which is conveniently located, in order to control both the logistical routes and the outskirts of Zaporizhzhia,” Voloshyn emphasized.
