The Ministry of Defense is developing a programme to modernize the infrastructure of the hospital network. The funding required to upgrade rehabilitation hospitals is estimated at around UAH 8 billion.
This was reported by Minister of Defense Denys Shmyhal on Telegram.
“We are developing a programme for the infrastructure modernization of the hospital network. The funding needed to upgrade rehabilitation hospitals is about UAH 8 billion,” the minister wrote.
According to Shmyhal, in 2026 the Ministry of Defense plans to invest more than UAH 700 million from the state budget in the development of military hospitals. This includes completing ongoing projects, preparing design documentation, and launching new construction.
In addition, the minister said that international partners are being involved in the projects. In particular, for more than a year, the “Renovator” project has been implemented as part of NATO’s Comprehensive Assistance Package, focusing on five key medical facilities. The project supports infrastructure modernization, procurement of modern equipment, and training of medical personnel. So far, EUR 80 million has been accumulated under the project, while the total need is EUR 200 million.
Shmyhal also noted that the Ministry of Defense expects Canada to participate in supporting projects aimed at the recovery and rehabilitation of servicemembers.
In this context, the defense minister held talks with Canada’s Special Representative for Ukraine’s Reconstruction, Chrystia Freeland.
