The issue of strengthening economic cooperation between Ukraine and Slovakia was under discussion during a meeting in Kyiv between First Deputy Prime Minister - Minister of Economy of Ukraine Yuliia Svyrydenko and Minister of Economy of the Slovak Republic Karel Hirman.
"Ukraine and Slovakia have close economic ties, which have been only strengthening recently. Following the results of 9 months, the growth of trade turnover between the countries has increased by 30%. And there is a potential for further growth. In particular, Ukraine has the opportunity to significantly boost iron ore supplies to Slovakia," said Yuliia Svyrydenko.
The extension of the Agreement on the liberalization of freight transport by road for one year will also contribute to the intensification of trade between the countries. Negotiations on this issue are currently underway between Ukraine and the EU. According to Yuliia Svyrydenko, Ukraine relies on the support of Slovakia.
Given the integration into the EU, our country is interested in the relevant experience of the Slovak Republic. Ukraine also hopes for the support of Slovakia in the issue of integration into the EU markets.
During the meeting, the parties paid much attention to the development of transport corridors, the elimination of bottlenecks in logistics. In particular, they focused on the prospects for the development of crossings in Uzhhorod of the Chop-Košice, Mukachevo-Košice transport corridors, etc.
Karel Hirman emphasized Slovakia is extremely interested in expanding the possibilities of transport communication with Ukraine.
