Romanian senator Diana Shoshoaca, known for her ties to the Kremlin, wanted to annex part of the territory of Ukraine. She submitted a bill to the Romanian Parliament to terminate the 1997 agreement between Bucharest and Kyiv.

According to the Romanian HotNews, on March 20, the parliament received a draft law "On Amending Law 129/1997 on the Ratification of the Treaty on Good Neighborly Relations and Cooperation between Romania and Ukraine."

The document provides for the termination of the treaty with Ukraine in 2027 "observing the notice period of at least a year before the expiration date", as a result of which "Romania will annex the historical territories that belonged to it, respectively, Northern Bukovina, Hertsa region, Budzhak (Cahul, Bolgrad, Izmail), historical Maramuresh and Zmeiiny (Snake) Island".

"With this law, we want to return cultural identity, traditions, customs, and religion to the Romanian population, which is estimated at about one million, including mixed families," Diana Shoshoaca said.

In addition, she pointed out that in Ukraine, ethnic Romanians do not study in their native language and are also not represented in the Verkhovna Rada.
