Ukrzaliznytsia has shared fresh updates on its Food Train project, which has been operating in the Kharkiv region for almost two weeks, helping to overcome the consequences of enemy attacks on the region's infrastructure.
Recently, the train team crossed another record mark, preparing almost 260,000 meals on the kitchen train since the project started. Moreover, 170,000 meals were prepared specifically in the last two weeks in the Kharkiv region and delivered with the local authorities to hospitals, temporary accommodation centers for internally displaced persons, and residents of remote areas most affected by power outages.
The project was launched on November 23, 2023. The unique train was developed in collaboration with railway workers and the foundation of American philanthropist Howard Buffett. It provides guaranteed and autonomous feeding of Ukrainians in areas with serious damage to logistics, electricity, gas, and water supply.
The 6-car train can operate independently for 5-7 days, preparing over 10,000 meals per day. It has a generator with a capacity of up to 400 kW and its own refueling station inside, a refrigerator car with a freezer, two cars with cold and hot kitchens for food preparation, and a baggage car that holds 27,000 liters of water, equipped with filtration and pumping stations. It has an autonomous power supply system and can reach any point in the country where its assistance is needed.
