For the first time, Kyiv made it to the finals of the annual World Smart City Awards 2022 competition and claims the title of the "smartest" city in the world. The winner will be announced on November 16.
Each city received a place in the final for implementing a specific project. Despite the war with Russia, Kyiv is competing for the status of "the smartest", working on digital reform.
The organizers say that this should help the city become "safe, sustainable and mobile" and fully transfer all administrative services to the online mode by 2030.
Seoul, Toronto, Sydney, Bogotá (Colombia) and Curitiba (Brazil) also made it to the finals. In total, more than 60 countries submitted applications to the World Smart City Awards.
The annual World Smart City Awards is a prestigious international competition that seeks to recognize pioneering projects, ideas and strategies making cities around the world more livable, sustainable, and economically viable.
