During a working visit to the Kharkiv region, President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelensky reviewed the process of building defensive structures and fortifications near the border with the aggressor state – Russia.
"The Kharkiv region is a very important direction. We have to be prepared. And Russians must see that we are ready to defend ourselves. And our people must understand that Ukraine is prepared in case the enemy tries to attack," the Head of State emphasized.
Head of the Kharkiv Regional Military Administration Oleh Syniehubov noted that the fortifications consist of an extensive system of trenches, dugouts and other types of shelters. Barrier lines are being set up in the region: concrete pyramids, dragon's teeth, and anti-tank ditches.
The project for the construction of fortifications was developed by the Ministry of Defense of Ukraine, taking into account the experience of soldiers on the first line of defense.
The President of Ukraine also held a meeting with the Commander of the Kharkiv operational group of troops in the Kharkiv region.
Brigadier General Yuri Galushkin reported to the Head of State on the operational situation in his area and the readiness to respond to potential threats from Russia.
The President presented State Awards to the servicemen of the Armed Forces of Ukraine and the National Guard of Ukraine who distinguished themselves in protecting the Kharkiv region and the Bahmut area.
In addition, Volodymyr Zelenskyy presented awards to police officers and rescue workers who responded heroically to the aftermath of the Russian attacks on Kharkiv.
"I am honored to be here today. Things are not easy for Kharkiv. But thanks to strong people like you, there is still life here. And I am confident that there will be a victory for Kharkiv and our entire country," the President emphasized.
