The largest French car manufacturer, Renault, has signed an agreement with the French defense company Turgis Gaillard to produce drones for the Ukrainian Defense Forces. Renault stated that it will collaborate with Turgis Gaillard to manufacture drones at two of its factories but declined to comment on the contract’s value or the number of drones to be produced.
According to the Financial Times, the deal is supported by the French Ministry of Defense.
“We were approached because of our industrial and creative manufacturing expertise. This project is ongoing and managed by the Ministry of Defense. We confirm our participation in this project at the request of the state,” said Renault CEO Fabrice Cambolive on Tuesday.
The contract follows a June request from the French government to automotive and defense companies to cooperate in drone production. Renault has previously produced military equipment, including tanks used in the First and Second World Wars.
Turgis Gaillard, founded in 2011, is a French defense company with approximately 400 employees and an annual revenue of €80 million.
