The counterintelligence unit of the Security Service of Ukraine (SSU) has uncovered another attempt by Russian intelligence services to gain access to classified Ukrainian military developments.

As a result of proactive measures, a 47-year-old local engineer was detained in the Odessa region for spying on behalf of the FSB.

At the Russian order, the agent was tasked with obtaining classified documentation related to the production of components for the newest military vehicles of the Armed Forces of Ukraine.

To do this, he got a job at a local plant involved in fulfilling defense contracts.

However, the SSU had already exposed the agent during the recruitment phase by the Russian intelligence service and had documented his every move.

According to the investigation, from his first day at the plant, the “mole” tried to access blueprints and technological diagrams for producing parts for wheeled military vehicles.

He used his position as an engineer as cover and actively worked to quickly gain the trust of colleagues directly involved in the production process.

It was also established that the agent acted as a spotter.

Specifically, to help the Russians bypass the air defense system in the Odessa region, he traveled around the area attempting to locate air defense positions and radar stations.

The SSU's counterintelligence unit detained the agent and conducted a comprehensive operation to secure the positions of Ukrainian forces.

During the search, photos of technical documents intended for transmission to the aggressor were seized, along with other evidence of collaboration with the Russian intelligence service.

The suspect is currently in custody and faces life imprisonment with confiscation of property.
