The Georgian intelligence service will lose its independence and will be subordinated to the State Security Service.

This was reported by interpressnews.

According to draft laws already submitted to parliament, the current structure, which reports directly to the prime minister, will be transformed into the National Intelligence Agency and will become a subordinate body of the State Security Service (SSS).

These changes are part of a comprehensive package of 26 laws. They redefine the key aspects of the new agency’s operation — its structure, functions, organizational rules, composition, as well as mechanisms to protect employees from interference in their activities. Special attention is given to legal guarantees and funding issues.

The legislative initiatives were proposed by 'Georgian Dream' MPs: Aleksandre Tabatadze, Tengiz Sharmanashvili, Gia Benashvili, Archil Gorduladze, Rati Ionatamishvili, Ioseb Jorbenadze, Henrietta Tsitsava, Zviad Shalamberidze and Viktor Japaridze.
