Georgian winemakers have spoken out against the "foreign agent law" and called for the government to resign. "No to the Russian law! No to the government of traitors!" is noted in the joint statement signed by 50 winemakers, reports Sota.
The statement emphasizes that while winemakers are not representatives of political organizations, they are among those who first express "their firm stance on important political or social issues."
The winemakers are convinced that the government-initiated draft law "On Transparency of Foreign Influence" undermines Georgia's independence and citizens' freedoms, "is hypocritical, dictated by personal interests of vested individuals," and is a "provocation at the direct behest of the occupying country."
Georgian winemakers believe that this draft law is aimed at abolishing Georgia's statehood. It demonstrates the treacherous nature of the current authorities of the country, as stated in the statement.
"It is obvious that each day of this government's rule poses a huge threat to our country. They have lost all moral rights to be called the government of Georgia. This government must resign immediately! We call on everyone to unanimously declare their clear position. With common sense and clear minds, let's overcome this swamp and create a bright future!" write the signatories.
