Germany is not observing any willingness from Russia to engage in peace negotiations with Ukraine. Furthermore, Moscow is setting unrealistic preconditions for dialogue, according to German Ambassador to Russia, Alexander Graf Lambsdorff, as reported by DPA.
"Currently, the Russian side shows no readiness for negotiations and insists on unrealistic preliminary conditions," stated the German diplomat.
He added that when Vladimir Putin sets conditions for negotiations, such as withdrawing Ukrainian troops from four regions, "it becomes clear that there is no seriousness behind this."
Lambsdorff suggested that "one fine day" Russia might realize that it is achieving far less with its current war strategy than intended and is causing itself serious harm on the international stage.
The diplomat also noted that the operation by Ukrainian defenders in the Kursk region is causing nervousness in Russia. The success of Ukrainian forces has come as an "unpleasant surprise" to border troops, secret services, military personnel, and the Russian population.
