Germany's domestic intelligence agency has warned about a cyber group associated with the Russian military intelligence unit (GRU) 29155, stating that it has conducted cyberattacks against NATO and EU countries. This is reported by Alarabiya.

In a statement on the social media platform X on Monday, the Federal Office for the Protection of the Constitution (BfV) said it is issuing a warning about the group known as UNC2589, in cooperation with the FBI, the American cybersecurity agency CISA, the NSA, and other international partners.

The warning comes amid heightened concern in Europe over alleged Russian hackers and spies following Moscow's invasion of Ukraine in 2022.

Earlier this year, Berlin accused Russia of a series of cyberattacks on Germany's ruling Social Democrats, as well as companies in the logistics, defense, aerospace, and IT sectors.

In its warning, the intelligence agency stated that the group, also known as Cadet Blizzard or Ember Bear, engages in espionage and sabotage activities, often involving website defacement and the publication of stolen data.

The GRU unit to which it belongs is known for its alleged involvement in the poisoning of former Russian double agent Sergei Skripal and his daughter Yulia in the UK in 2018, according to the agency.
