At IT Arena 2024, Hardcat showcased a working prototype of a kamikaze river drone developed at the request of military personnel engaged in combat in Kherson. The drone is designed to destroy small motorboats and can carry a payload of up to 3 kg, with a range of 10 km and speeds reaching 40 km/h.
The project team is also developing a new model specifically for clearing anchored mines, which pose a serious threat to military operations in the Dnipro region. According to the project’s CPO, the main goal is to save the lives of Ukrainian soldiers and assist in the fight against the aggressor.
The next development phase includes creating a model capable of reaching speeds of up to 80 km/h to protect civilian vessels at sea. This concept aims to counter attacks from small boats and drones. The cost of the river drone is approximately $1,200, making it accessible for operational use. It will be equipped with a camera, lighting, and the option to install night vision capabilities.
Currently, the Hardcat team consists of four members, with their work stemming from an idea proposed by the brother of one of their colleagues involved in combat. The first drones are expected to be sent to the military for operational use in the near future.
