Many families with children live in Kharkiv. Due to high demand, work is already underway to create underground kindergartens.
This was reported by the Mayor of Kharkiv, Ihor Terekhov, as conveyed by Kharkiv News.
Terekhov met with representatives of the U.S. Congress and Senate. He showed them the first underground school in Ukraine and shared future plans.
In particular, the Mayor of Kharkiv announced the construction of similar facilities in other areas of the city so that more children could return to in-person learning.
The existing underground school is already at full capacity. The same applies to the schools that are currently being built underground.
The situation with kindergartens is significantly worse. Many families with children remain in Kharkiv. Parents have no one to leave their children with, so underground kindergartens are necessary here. Currently, the first such facilities are being designed in Kharkiv.
“To ensure our children can learn offline, we built the first underground school in Ukraine. Nearly one thousand children are studying there in two shifts. Additionally, we have equipped classrooms at six metro stations for learning. However, the demand is very high. Therefore, we are already constructing three underground schools in different areas of Kharkiv and plan to build three more. In total, there will be six such schools,” said Ihor Terekhov.
