A memorial plaque was unveiled at the Vernadsky National Library in honor of Gareth Jones, one of the first journalists to report on the Holodomor in Ukraine, reports Chytomo.

The bronze plaque was installed in the reading room of the foreign Ukrainian studies department and was created by the artistic workshop of Lyubov and Myroslav Trutyak in Toronto, initiated by Canadian historian and geographer of Ukrainian origin, Lubomyr Luciuk.

The plaque reads, "In memory of the graduate of Aberystwyth University and Cambridge University, Gareth Richard Vaughan Jones (b. 1905) - one of the first journalists to report on the Holodomor in Soviet Ukraine in 1932-1933."

Gareth Jones, a Welsh journalist, witnessed the Holodomor in Ukraine with his own eyes and reported on it in the Western press. His reporting was published in newspapers such as the "Manchester Guardian" and the "New York Evening Post."
