In Poland, a group of saboteurs has been uncovered, according to Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Digital Affairs Krzysztof Gawkowski during a press conference on September 9.
According to Gawkowski, representatives of Russian and Belarusian services were discovered with a specific goal in cybersecurity: to gather information and then engage in both individual and institutional blackmail.
"The services aimed to identify entry vectors into various Polish institutions, including both local government and state companies related to security," said Gawkowski.
He did not specify which institutions were targeted but added that "all of them have been informed and included in operational procedures." According to Gawkowski, the saboteurs were uncovered thanks to the cooperation of various Polish intelligence agencies, including the Internal Security Agency and military personnel.
"We are dealing with a situation where personal data was intended to be used for blackmail. This blackmail aimed to demand money but also possibly to coerce cooperation."
The minister added that "signals of danger are received every minute in cyberspace. Often, over 1000 cyber incidents occur in a day."
Earlier, the Polish General Staff reported that they are running a social media campaign to educate citizens on how to resist Russian manipulation.
