There are international partners ready to continue work on developing irrigation in the Kherson region.
This was announced at a press conference by the head of the Kherson Regional Military Administration, Oleksandr Prokudin, in response to a question from a Ukrinform correspondent regarding partners continuing irrigation projects in Kherson amid the USAID situation.
“Yes. USAID, of course, has been very helpful. They allocated $1 million to restore irrigation across 1,500 hectares. The equipment has been purchased and delivered,” said Prokudin.
He added that the equipment will be installed once security conditions allow.
The head of the administration also noted that the region continues to work with other international partners. For example, a charitable organization provided $150,000 in grant support for the repair of four irrigation machines in the Bilozerka community, restoring irrigation over 400 hectares.
“We are negotiating irrigation projects with everyone—any international partners who come. This is probably the first priority, restoring irrigation, because we depend on it, and our farmers depend on it,” Prokudin said.
He also reminded that the region works with the UN Food and Agriculture Organization to involve it in irrigation restoration projects.
In addition, a state support program initiated by the Kherson administration provides compensation of 50% of costs for reconstruction or construction of reclamation systems—up to UAH 26,500 per hectare.
Currently, the government is considering increasing the compensation level to 80% for frontline communities in the Kherson region.
