Italian Foreign Minister Antonio Tajani said on Monday that a new aid package for Ukraine was ready.
This was reported by ANSA.
"My position is well known: we stand with Ukraine and will continue to support it for as long as necessary. The next military aid package is already ready, and we will send it to Kyiv as soon as possible," Tajani told journalists in Milan.
The Italian foreign minister's statement came in response to remarks by Deputy Prime Minister and Transport Minister Matteo Salvini, who said he would seek to end Italy's economic and military support for Kyiv after being re-elected leader of the right-wing League party on Sunday.
Salvini retained the leadership of the League at an extraordinary party congress in Milan, defeating Senator and former Tourism Minister Massimo Garavaglia by 465 votes to 146.
The transport minister has faced criticism from moderate members of the party who are dissatisfied with its continued shift towards the right, as well as from those who believe the League should return to its traditional focus on northern Italy.
Salvini, 53, took over the leadership of the former Northern League in 2013 and subsequently removed the word "Northern" from the party's name to broaden its appeal nationwide.
