Jamala's album "QIRIM," released this year, has made it to the longlist of the Shevchenko Prize in the category of "Musical Art." This is the highest state award for contributions to the development of Ukrainian culture.
The album "QIRIM" was nominated by the National Public Television and Radio Company of Ukraine. It is a collection of Crimean Tatar songs presented in lush orchestral arrangements. It was previously performed with a symphonic orchestra in Kyiv and Liverpool. We also included "QIRIM" in the list of the best Ukrainian albums of 2023 (so far).
The Shevchenko Prize Committee for this year announced the nominees in categories such as "Literature," "Literary and Art Studies," "Publicistics," "Journalism," "Visual Arts," "Cinematic Art," and "Theatrical Art." Among the nominees are the Hudaki Village Band for their concert "Music from the Heart of Ukraine," the film "Pamfir" by Dmytro Sukholitko-Sobchuk, the documentary "Yuki," "20 Days in Mariupol," and others.
Traditionally, the awards ceremony takes place on March 9th, on the birthday of Taras Shevchenko. The prize was established in 1961, and 2023 is the first year when the prize was not awarded on this date.
