The European Union has decided to allocate €10 million for the establishment of a Special Tribunal on the crime of Russia’s aggression against Ukraine, as well as €6 million to assist Ukrainian children deported by Russia and victims of sexual crimes committed by the aggressors.

This was announced by EU High Representative for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy, Kaja Kallas, during a joint press conference in Kyiv with Ukrainian Foreign Minister Andriy Sybiha.

“With regard to accountability, today I can announce the first €10 million for the creation of a Special Tribunal on the crime of aggression,” Kallas said.

She confirmed the EU’s position that top Russian officials “bear responsibility for this war, because there would be no war crimes, no atrocities, if there had been no crime of aggression.”

She emphasized that no one should go unpunished for the crimes committed.

The EU diplomat also stressed that the forced deportation of children and acts of sexual violence are “among the darkest chapters of Russia’s war.”

“Today we are allocating an additional €6 million to support the care of children deported by Russia and victims of sexual violence. This can help provide the necessary assistance to the victims of these crimes,” Kallas said.
