EU Ambassador to Ukraine Katarína Mathernová has urged people not to believe Russia when it talks about peace while continuing to attack Ukraine.
She made the statement on Facebook.
“A little while ago, an explosion jolted me out of my chair in my Kyiv office. It was the loudest blast yet I have experienced in three years here. A building about two hundred meters from the EU Delegation was hit by a jet powered drone,” Mathernová said.
The diplomat recalled the attack on the National Academy of Sciences of Ukraine, a 19-hour air raid alert in Kyiv on Sunday, 27 September, and attacks on a food market, residential buildings, schools, kindergartens and data centres. She also referred to recent strikes on Kharkiv, Sumy and Dnipro that resulted in deaths and injuries.
“Ukraine’s Foreign Minister Andrii Sybiha is calling for a strong response to the attacks. He is right. Ukraine urgently needs stronger air defence and much stronger pressure on russia. At the negotiating table, russia speaks of de-escalation. In Kyiv, we hear the loud explosions. Do not ever believe russia when it talks about peace,” the EU ambassador said.
