In Lviv, President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelenskyy held talks with Polish Prime Minister Donald Tusk, focusing on coordination with partners, joint achievements, and mutual understanding.
“It is very important for Ukraine and Poland to act in ways that support each other's efforts. This always strengthens us. I am glad that there is cooperation between our ministries of culture on historical issues between our countries. There are meetings, joint work has begun, and there is progress in this area,” said the President.
Detailed attention was given to the situation on the battlefield and in diplomacy. The President emphasized the shared understanding that Ukraine requires a just peace, strengthened capabilities, and a solid position.
“We all in Europe need not just a pause in hostilities, not something temporary or uncertain. We need a strong, unified position among all partners, and we need genuine peace. Most importantly, only such peace—peace achieved through strength—can be ensured,” Volodymyr Zelenskyy added.
The meeting also addressed expectations for Poland’s upcoming presidency of the European Union Council next year and cooperation on supplying weapons to support Ukraine on the front lines.
Additionally, the President thanked Poland for its assistance to Ukraine and its support for Ukraine's aspirations to become a full-fledged NATO member.
“Poland understands how crucial it is in our part of Europe to have true security guarantees and to eliminate any geopolitical uncertainty,” he said.
Donald Tusk assured that Ukraine could always count on Poland's support, particularly on its path to the EU and NATO.
“Our shared history is both complex and beautiful. There have been many positives and negatives in our relations. But this is the story of nations that, in moments of trial, have shown an understanding of the historical moment, such as Russia’s aggression: Poland’s help to Ukraine and Ukraine’s fight. This is a great bond that has emerged between our peoples,” said the Prime Minister.
He also noted that Poland is preparing to implement a project to equip Ukrainian brigades. Donald Tusk plans to discuss this initiative with other European partners, including those from the Baltic and Scandinavian countries.
