Kherson region is the leading region in the country for the scale of demining efforts. It employs the largest number of sappers—over 800 people. Plans are in place to increase this number to 1,500 within a year. This was noted by Prime Minister Denys Shmyhal during a government field meeting on July 25.
‘The agricultural sector is the main economic driver for Kherson region. Therefore, rapid humanitarian demining is one of the elements supporting the region's economic activity,’ the Prime Minister remarked.
The head of the government noted that this month, farmers have the opportunity to apply for compensation for conducted demining.
‘This market element will allow us to complete the demining of Ukraine in years rather than decades. Additionally, there are special government support programs for farmers in Kherson Oblast,’ said Denys Shmyhal.
Specifically, farmers who cultivate up to 120 hectares in the de-occupied territories can receive up to 8,000 UAH in non-repayable assistance per hectare. According to the Prime Minister, financial aid is also provided to farmers who raise livestock.
