The Australian Open tennis championship is underway in Melbourne – the first Grand Slam tournament of the season. Ukrainian Marta Kostyuk confidently advanced to the quarterfinals, defeating 'neutral' Russian Maria Timofeeva 6-2, 6-1 in the fourth round.

The match lasted 1 hour and 15 minutes.

In the quarterfinals of the Australian Open, Kostyuk will compete against the fourth-ranked player in the world and the current US Open champion, Coco Gauff from the United States.

Marta Kostyuk reached the quarterfinals of a Grand Slam tournament for the first time in her career. She becomes the second Ukrainian female tennis player to reach the quarterfinals in Melbourne after Elina Svitolina (2018, 2019).
