The mining and metallurgical group Metinvest has acquired the Tubular Products Iași S.A. (AMTP Iași) pipe plant in Romania from ArcelorMittal S.A. (Luxembourg).
According to the company’s announcement on Wednesday, the group continues to strengthen the synergy between Ukrainian and EU metallurgy. The acquisition deal was finalized on December 16, 2025. The plant, located in the Romanian city of Iași, produces welded structural pipes for construction, machinery, infrastructure, and the agricultural sector, with a maximum capacity of 240,000 tons per year.
“Even before the full-scale war, Metinvest began building a bridge between Ukrainian and EU steelmaking. For us, this new plant is a unique opportunity to provide work for two sites at once: in Iași and Zaporizhzhia. It is part of our contribution to post-war reconstruction. I am confident that the plant’s products will not only be in demand in the EU, but will also be required for rebuilding Ukraine’s war-damaged infrastructure and industry,” said Metinvest CEO Yuriy Ryzhenkov.
This facility became Metinvest’s first production site in Romania. Negotiations for the acquisition lasted several months. On November 24, 2025, the European Commission approved the acquisition under EU merger regulations, followed by approval from Romania’s national competition authority the next day, after a foreign investment screening process.
"Our assets in Ukraine have historically produced large volumes of hot-rolled coil for both the domestic market and export. The location of the new asset in Romania – only 600 kilometres from Zaporizhzhia – enables us to supply up to 180,000 tonnes of hot-rolled coil produced by Zaporizhstal JV every year. This will secure regular orders and stable operations for the Romanian plant," said Metinvest COO Oleksandr Myronenko.
Integration of the facility into Metinvest’s production and organizational chains is planned for 2026. The plant has five pipe mills, two longitudinal cutting lines, and two coating lines. Metinvest will honor all employment agreements with staff in Iași.
Besides Ukraine and Romania, the group also has assets in Italy, Bulgaria, the United Kingdom, and the United States.
