Amid Russia’s full-scale invasion, ongoing in Ukraine for nearly four years, Metinvest remains an economic and industrial pillar of the country. Over more than a decade of war, the Group has managed to launch production of 433 types of new products.
Last year, the company introduced new items in the semi-finished and long-rolled steel segments (four each), hot-rolled coils and sheets (two), and cold-rolled coils and sheets (one).
The bulk of the new products were manufactured by the Kametstal and Zaporizhstal plants. One product was launched by the Group’s Bulgarian rolling mill, Promet Steel.
Semi-finished, hot-rolled, and cold-rolled products
At Kametstal, production of four types of continuously cast billets measuring 335×400 mm from various steel grades was established, intended for pipe rolling.
Zaporizhstal mastered two types of hot-rolled coil products: a new coil size in S235JR steel (1.8×1045 mm) and S235JRC steel suitable for cold forming through bending and profiling. Both products are produced according to the European standard EN 10025-2 and are used in construction and mechanical engineering for steel structures, pipes, and closed-profile structural components.
The plant also began producing cold-rolled coils from S280GD steel, with chemical and mechanical properties meeting European standard EN 10346. These coils are intended for further processing, profiling, and coating application. They are used to manufacture lightweight thin-walled steel structures, load-bearing and decorative elements for facades, and other construction purposes.
Long-rolled products
Kametstal established production of rebar for the Polish and Romanian markets. B500SP rebar meets Polish construction standards and is used to reinforce concrete.
B500C rebar for Romania, of similar strength, has higher plasticity, making it suitable for complex and seismic-resistant structures.
Kametstal also mastered production of grinding balls with a 100 mm diameter and hardness class 5 according to Ukrainian standard DSTU 8538. These are used in the mining and metallurgical industry for grinding ore, concentrates, or intermediate products in drum-type ball mills.
Promet Steel last year began producing rebar according to the MKS 1021:2019 standard for the North Macedonia market. The product is intended for reinforcing concrete structures in construction. It has a ribbed surface for reliable concrete adhesion and is suitable for welding, ensuring strength and safety of reinforced concrete structures.
