To rebuild the housing and social infrastructure in Ukraine, which has been damaged due to the Russian invasion, approximately 3.5 million tons of steel will be needed. This amount is necessary to restore 65,000 buildings. This was discussed at the 2nd Architectural and Construction Forum "Rebuilding Ukraine: Transformation and Modernization," where Metinvest-SMC presented the concept of Ukraine's recovery, known as the "Steel Dream."

At the forum, government representatives, together with builders, developers, architects, and banks, discussed how to expedite Ukraine's recovery and the estimated timeframe required for this effort.

According to our calculations, the restoration of housing and social infrastructure will now require approximately 3.5 million tons of steel. We took into account the volume of damaged buildings, which currently exceeds 65,000, as well as the average metal content of these objects. The restoration will also take time, with a perspective of 5-10 years, so we also considered the average annual metal consumption figures. There is enough steel available for the reconstruction, and Metinvest is prepared to meet the country's metal needs," noted Tatyana Skripka, Head of the Project Office for the Construction Sector at Metinvest-SMC, after the forum.

During the presentation of the "Steel Dream," participants at the forum had the opportunity to learn more about the prefab technologies that underpin housing and social infrastructure projects. These technologies involve constructing buildings from prefabricated, factory-made components, including steel modules, frameworks, and platforms. In addition to the technologies and architectural plans, Metinvest-SMC presented ready-made interior designs for each building type.

Apart from Mariupol, authorities from two other Ukrainian cities have also expressed their readiness to reconstruct damaged structures using the "Steel Dream" projects. Negotiations and adaptation of building projects to local conditions are ongoing with several communities.

The "Steel Dream" concept has generated significant interest from foreign partners, and the project team is undergoing accreditation with some international funds.

Recall that in May 2023, Metinvest-SMC presented the country's recovery concept known as the "Steel Dream." It encompasses over 200 ready building projects based on three prefabricated steel elements: framework, module, and platform. These projects cover residential development (1-8 story houses, dormitories, hotels), social infrastructure (schools, kindergartens, clinics), and various infrastructure facilities (parking, sports complexes, underground shelters).

The projects come with a complete set of documentation, including cost estimates, construction schedules, layouts, and technical solutions.
