The Cabinet of Ministers of Ukraine approved the Ministry of Environmental Protection and Natural Resources request to create a park of national importance on the territory of the Government residence "Mezhyhirya".

The Mezhyhirya Residence was founded as a monastery that functioned off-and-on until closed in 1923 by the Bolsheviks following the establishment of the Soviet Union. From 1935 Mezhyhirya was a state government residence, first under the Communist Party of the Soviet Union and then under an independent Ukraine, until 2007 when it was privatized. In 2012 the State Administration of Affairs rented a space from Tantalit for â‚´99,691 per year, arranging it for official receptions. In 2014, it returned to state ownership.

The picturesque tract near the Dnieper "Mezhyhirya" has been a state residence since 1935. For years, places visited by various statesmen were inaccessible to Ukrainians. After the Revolution of Dignity, Mezhyhirya became one of the most popular tourist destinations.

According to preliminary data of experts, on the territory of the residence there is a very rich landscape diversity.

"The Ministry of Environment, at the initiative of the Prime Minister, is starting the official process of transforming the Mezhyhirya Government Residence into a state park. I hope that shortly the favorite place of Ukrainian and foreign tourists in the Kyiv region will become a protected area, such as "Feofania", "Mariinsky Park" or "Holosiivsky Forest", - said Minister of Environment and Natural Resources Ruslan Strelets.

For the Mezhyhirya Government Residence to officially acquire the status of a park of state importance, the Ministry of Environment must complete all legal procedures and prepare a corresponding draft Presidential Decree.
