The Ministry of Defense of Ukraine is developing a legal framework and platforms to protect intellectual property. This was announced by Ilya Kostin, head of the Intellectual Property Department of the Main Directorate of Military Justice.

During the IP UKRAINE NOW 2024 event, he mentioned that the Ministry of Defense has already begun rebuilding the intellectual property system, which had been destroyed. The department plans to approve the relevant regulations in November and establish a dedicated unit in January 2025. In the first quarter of the next year, a Single Window for inventors in the Armed Forces of Ukraine will also be launched.

"At the same time, we are inventorying intellectual property assets. This allows us to register inventions, utility models, industrial designs, and trademarks under the ministry, as well as to protect the ministry's rights, for example, by appealing to the Appeals Chamber of the Ukrainian National Intellectual Property and Innovation Office to revoke a patent that was unjustly granted to a private individual for military uniforms," said Illia Kostin.

IP UKRAINE NOW is an annual event by the Ukrainian Bar Association dedicated to analyzing current aspects of intellectual property law. The UBA is one of the country's most authoritative legal organizations.
