Ukrainian Vice Prime Minister and Minister of Digital Transformation Mykhailo Fedorov believes that Ukraine is becoming one of the global Defense Tech hubs. He also stated that "technology must fight on the battlefield." Fedorov shared this in an interview with AIN.UA.
“Partners are impressed by the expertise of our developers and the fact that Ukrainian solutions demonstrate their effectiveness on the real battlefield. Many partner countries are trying to use our experience and developments to improve their own technologies,” he said.
According to the Minister of Digital Transformation, over 100 investment partners from more than 30 countries around the world are interested in Ukrainian developments. These include major venture funds, angel syndicates, and private investors.
He mentioned that in October, the first international investment summit on Ukrainian Defense Tech, named Defense Tech Valley, is planned. It will gather hundreds of investors from Ukraine and around the world, as well as Ukrainian and foreign companies.
Fedorov also addressed the question of whether robots could replace humans in warfare, particularly infantry. “Technology should fight on the battlefield, and robotization is the only way to save human lives. Thus, we focus on robotic platforms because we see potential and significant opportunities in this area. This is currently one of the priority directions for the Brave1 cluster,” said the Minister of Digital Transformation.
He noted that over 160 manufacturers of ground robotic systems are already operating in Ukraine, and more than 240 developments are registered on the Brave1 platform. The goal of Defense Tech, in his opinion, is to minimize human involvement where possible, especially in the evacuation of the wounded.
“We already have robots capable of autonomously arriving to pick up the wounded and evacuating them without human involvement. For instance, the Ukrainian robot 'Volya-E' has already evacuated over 100 wounded and fallen soldiers. During just one week of fighting in the Donetsk direction, this robot managed to evacuate about 20 wounded,” asserts Mykhailo Fedorov.
