The priorities of the new Government of Ukraine are the expansion of domestic weapons production and an increase in internal economic potential, more specific content within the Heroes' Policy, streamlining of social policy, and a new level of defense cooperation with key partners. This was stated by President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelenskyy during his speech at the plenary session of the Verkhovna Rada.
The Head of State thanked the Government officials led by Denys Shmyhal for the dignified path they had taken together and outlined the main expectations for the work of the new Government.
The President noted that the management of the defense sector and weapons production is currently being transformed to significantly increase, within six months, the share of Ukrainian-made weapons available to Ukrainian defenders.
“Currently, about 40% of the weapons in the hands of our warriors are made in Ukraine. In six months, it should be no less than 50%. The renewed Ukrainian Government must audit all agreements, contracts, and memoranda with partners in defense, arms production, and all resilience programs to fully implement all commitments in Ukraine’s interests,” Volodymyr Zelenskyy emphasized.
According to the Head of State, new agreements are also being planned with the United States that will strengthen Ukraine’s positions, for which changes in diplomatic work with the United States are needed.
“Together with Government officials, our diplomats, and the National Security and Defense Council, we are preparing a new level of defense cooperation with key partners. Ukraine will be among the world’s leading security donors and weapons manufacturers,” the President said.
Volodymyr Zelenskyy stressed that in order to guarantee our warriors' confidence in the supply of the Defense Forces, Ukraine is increasing its internal economic potential. For this, deregulation must be carried out, all bureaucratic obstacles and institutions with duplicating functions must be eliminated, partner capacity must be engaged, and stronger approaches must be adopted for punishing those who encroach on Ukrainian statehood or steal Ukraine’s potential.
The President also stated that the Government must continue digitalizing processes and public services, provide more specific content for programs supporting veterans and families of the servicemembers, and streamline and develop a more realistic approach to social policy in Ukraine.
“I count on the Government’s action plan to be presented as soon as possible and implemented on a daily basis. Each day must bring results for Ukraine,” the Head of State stressed.
Today, the Verkhovna Rada supported the appointment of Yuliia Svyrydenko as the new Prime Minister of Ukraine with 262 votes.
“Our task is to provide Ukrainians with every possible tool to defend the independence and life of Ukraine. We will fulfil this task. I am very grateful to President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelenskyy for his trust,” she said.
According to Yuliia Svyrydenko, the first priority the Government will work on over the next six months is effective provision for the Armed Forces, increased domestic weapons production, and enhancement of Ukraine’s military technological capabilities. In addition, maximum efforts will be directed towards ensuring the self-sufficiency of the Ukrainian economy.
The Prime Minister also assured that Ukraine would be ready on all negotiating clusters and would continue its European integration and path toward NATO.
