On Sunday, the second round of the presidential election took place in Romania. The Mayor of Bucharest and pro-European politician Nicușor Dan has become the new head of state.
This was reported by the official website of Romania’s Central Election Commission.
The main contenders for the position were the pro-Russian far-right candidate George Simion and the Mayor of Bucharest, Nicușor Dan.
President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelensky congratulated Nicușor Dan on his "historic victory in the presidential elections in Romania."
According to Zelensky,
"For Ukraine, as a neighbor and a friend, it is important to have a reliable partner in Romania, and we are confident that this will be the case. By working together, we can strengthen both our countries and our Europe. We will always hold great respect for Romania and its people, especially in light of the support we received during the most difficult period in our history. Dear Romanians, you can always count on Ukraine as a good neighbor and partner. We are capable of overcoming any challenge if we remain united and strong," Zelensky wrote.
The President added that he looks forward to the continued development of the strategic partnership between "our friendly nations for the sake of their stability, security, and prosperity."
