The leader in express deliveries in Ukraine, the company Nova Poshta, has launched the first of seven gas-powered cogeneration units planned for installation in 2025.
"The new phase of implementing the energy independence program has begun: the first gas-powered cogeneration unit with an electrical capacity of 1 MW has been launched at the company's hub (Nova Poshta - IF-U) in western Ukraine. Six more units are currently being installed and are expected to be operational this year, including one in Kyiv," reported the press service of Nova Poshta.
The company’s cogeneration units will produce electricity and heat from natural gas.
According to the report, Nova Poshta has invested a total of 300 million UAH in energy autonomy, with an additional 150 million UAH planned for investment in 2025. More than half of the total 450 million UAH investment will go towards gas generation.
Earlier, it was reported that Nova Poshta’s energy company (the NOVA group) Nova-Energiya became an electricity trader after receiving a license from the National Commission for State Regulation of Energy and Utilities (NCRER).
Nova Poshta established the energy company Nova-Energiya to develop regular electricity generation and ensure the autonomy of the company’s facilities in April 2023, in response to Russian strikes on Ukraine’s energy system. Since August, the company has been involved in small wholesale sales of diesel fuel on the open market.
Co-owner of Nova Poshta, Volodymyr Poperechnyuk, announced plans to install industrial uninterruptible power supply systems and energy storage equipment to enhance the efficiency of the energy facilities.
He also stated that after the end of the war and improvement in the energy situation, Nova-Energiya would be sold as a non-core business.
It was also reported that Nova Poshta has installed its second solar power plant (SPS) at its terminal in Kyiv and plans to increase its capacity to 1.4 MW. The first SPS, with a capacity of 1 MW, was launched in January at the Kyiv Innovation Terminal and is located on its roof.
