Approximately 80% of all executions of Ukrainian soldiers by Russians occurred in 2024, with 93 of our fighters reported killed.
This was stated by Yuriy Belousov, head of the Department for Combating Crimes Committed in Armed Conflict at the Office of the Prosecutor General, during a telethon.
Belousov specifically mentioned that recently information about another execution of a Ukrainian soldier appeared on social media. However, it cannot be confirmed at this time.
"We immediately registered another case with the Main Investigation Department of the Security Service of Ukraine (SSU). We currently have information regarding the deaths of 93 of our soldiers who were executed on the battlefield. Importantly, about 80% of all executions took place this year, indicating a serious increase in these cases in 2024," he said.
According to him, changes in the attitude of Russian soldiers towards Ukrainian prisoners of war have become noticeable since November of last year. These changes have taken a significantly worse turn.
"Perhaps the most high-profile example is our prisoners of war who died in Olenivka. However, such cases are being recorded in other places of captivity as well," he said.
Recently, the UN High Commissioner for Human Rights released a report confirming the execution of 10 prisoners of war in other places of captivity.
"We are also documenting this. We have significant cases concerning places of captivity in the territory of the Russian Federation and in the occupied territories. We interrogate all our returning prisoners of war. All of them become victims of such cruel torture. Unfortunately, during these tortures, some of our fighters die at the hands of either representatives of the Russian Armed Forces or the FSB or overzealous employees," Belousov explained.
