Lieutenant General Oleksandr Syrskyi, Commander of the Ground Forces of the Ukrainian Armed Forces, reports that Russian invaders are sending prisoners as assault forces to break through the defense of the Ukrainian Armed Forces and retake Kupyansk. This statement was made by Syrskyi and published by the Military Media Center of the Defense Forces.

Due to the worsening situation on the Kupyansk direction, Syrskyi spent most of the day with the units defending the approaches to the city.

"The enemy, using assault groups composed mainly of prisoners, tries daily on various directions to break through the defense of our troops, with the aim of blockading and subsequently capturing Kupyansk," Syrskyi emphasized.

In this regard, he added that "as a result of working with commanders on this direction, a number of important decisions have been made that will ensure the reliability of the defense."

At the same time, according to his words, on the Lyman direction, the enemy is regrouping, replacing units that have lost combat capability due to the losses suffered, and does not abandon plans for new offensive actions.

"Our task is to make the maximum use of this situation and significantly improve our position. We have worked out the necessary decisions with the commanders directly in the combat zone," Syrskyi noted.

Furthermore, the Commander of the Ground Forces of the Ukrainian Armed Forces mentioned that the situation on the Bakhmut direction is complex but under control.

"The enemy is counterattacking, laying mines, intensively shelling, and using aviation. However, in such challenging conditions, our troops are gradually advancing forward," Syrskyi emphasized.

Also, discussions were held with the brigade commanders engaged on the Bakhmut direction about relevant matters aimed at enhancing the effectiveness of offensive actions, delivering accurate fire against the enemy, and implementing various measures to achieve victory over the adversary.
