In places of detention on occupied territories of Ukraine, the mortality rate among prisoners serving sentences for criminal offenses has increased.

This information was reported by the Eastern Human Rights Group.

"There has been a rise in cases of deaths among prisoners serving sentences for criminal offenses (non-military and political prisoners) in prisons under the control of the Federal Penitentiary Service of Russia (FSIN)," the statement reads.

It is noted that the recent causes of death include drug overdoses and deaths in the workplace.

Human rights activists add that Russia uses the labor of prisoners on specific enterprises in the coal and metallurgical industry in the temporarily occupied territories due to a shortage of labor.
