One million refugees have already returned to Ukraine from abroad, as reported by Ugochi Daniels, Deputy Director-General of the International Organization for Migration (IOM), to Hromadske Radio.
Within the country, 4.7 million people have already returned home. According to Ugochi Daniels, the Ukrainian government needs to attract approximately 4.5 million people to the country over the next 10 years.
IOM believes that Ukraine's reconstruction can also be aided by the Ukrainian diaspora and migrants from other countries.
"Engaging the diaspora will be very important, so there is no need to wait until the end of the war. People should be engaged right now, especially in humanitarian response projects," says Ugochi Daniels.
Temporary protection for Ukrainians in EU countries has been extended until March 2024. IOM states that Ukrainians who wish to remain in the host country are being integrated into the new society, while those who wish to return are being assisted in returning to Ukraine
