The General Staff conducted an assessment and decided on optimization. Staff will be reduced by 60%, and some military personnel will be reassigned to combat units.
This information was provided by Colonel General Yevhen Ostrianskyi, head of the Main Directorate of Defense Planning of the General Staff of the Armed Forces of Ukraine, during a briefing.
He stated that in February-March 2024, the General Staff conducted a functional study aimed at optimizing the staff of certain structural subdivisions and military management bodies.
As explained by the brigadier general, this includes the disbanding of several military organizational structures, the formation of new ones, and the optimization of existing ones. This will help eliminate function duplication and reduce staff by 60%.
Ostrianskyi added that the plan includes reinforcing operational and tactical level management bodies and combat military units. This will enable the rotation of units that have been in the combat zone for a prolonged period.
"We understand that, in wartime, we must primarily strengthen the structures directly managing troop formations," the brigadier general emphasized.
