Portugal is ready to accept an even larger number of wounded Ukrainians for treatment and rehabilitation of war injuries. This was discussed during the talks between the Minister of Health Viktor Liashko and the Minister of Health Marta Temido of Portugal.

"We are grateful to Portugal for its support from the first days of the full-scale invasion of the Russian Federation, both humanitarian and political support for the European integration course of Ukraine and the support of the Ministry of Health of Portugal, which we had at the meeting of the European Committee of WHO and the 73rd Assembly of WHO . But today we also have a global request: to help condemn the terrorist actions of Russia, which is exerting unprecedented pressure on the whole world by seizing the largest nuclear power plant in Europe - the Zaporizhzhia nuclear power plant. The occupiers have placed enemy military equipment there and are constantly shelling the station's territory. This is extremely dangerous, and our task today is to stop nuclear terrorism together," Health Minister Viktor Lyashko emphasized during the meeting.

During the conversation, the ministers agreed on further cooperation in the direction of medical evacuation and rehabilitation of Ukrainian patients with mine and explosive injuries, as well as on the possibility of expert assistance in the field of psychological and neurorehabilitation between Portuguese and Ukrainian doctors.

Viktor Lyashko also took the opportunity to express his gratitude to the Government of Portugal for the systematic support of the medical sector of Ukraine, in particular, the provision of humanitarian aid in the form of medicines, medical products and equipment.

"It is extremely important for us to feel strong support from our international partners, this not only strengthens the ability to face the challenges of war, but also significantly supports the "fighting spirit" of Ukrainian doctors," the Minister noted.

The head of the Ministry of Health of Portugal confirmed the readiness of their health care system to increase further the number of Ukrainians who will be able to receive the necessary treatment in medical institutions in Portugal.

We will remind that the Ministry of Health of Ukraine, the Ministry of Health of the Republic of Poland and representatives of the European Commission, will open a special medical hub in the Polish city of Rzeszów for Ukrainian patients who are being evacuated for specialized treatment to European clinics. The opening of the medical hub will take place on September 1, 2022.
